debian installation

I'm in the middle of trying to migrate from windows to Debian.  One thing  
that really threw me was that when I installed I didn't know I had to  
select a package using the space bar.  It looked as though the first line,  
desktop I seem to remember, was already installed.  Why not add a line to  
the text saying "use the space bar to select a package" or similar
