Configure the network should offer/allow configuration of multiple
interfaces. Many people will have both intranet ethernet and also a
PPP line, or DSL/Cable ethernet.
It will need to be able to set up all of the things that
/etc/network/* contains.
For a quick fix, the netconfig ought to tell you to configure your
Internet interface now, then set up other interfaces after the
install.

It's not a big deal to me, I know to run pppconfig. I assume it's because
I configured an ethernet card that it skipped ppp. With more people using
cheap network card/hub setups at home, we may want to prompt for this
anyway. I didn't check to see if it was a menu option, and I wasn't using
verbose, so maybe it's already taken care of. My point was that you must
cancel a valid apt config if the mirror isn't currently available. A
minor nuisance at most.

I see. dbootstrap is supposed to set a variable if you tell it to use PPP,
and then base-config will prompt you if you want to dial up before that
configuration happens. It sounds like dbootstrap never gave you a chance to
set up ppp during the initial install. If that's so, it sounds like you may
have hit a bug in the boot floppies. I don't know when/where they prompt
about setting up ppp, though..

long in as root (no password), and run
"DEBCONF_DEBUG=1 dpkg-reconfigure base-config". This may provide some useful
information.

Ok, this time it's an old system that I have sitting in the corner.
After reboot, it asks to configure apt. Now, I have no cd, not currently
dialed in, and no local mirror. Manually configuring the sources.list
works easy enough, complains about not being able to verify things
(expected). I had to cancel the apt config to pass to the next part.
Canceling the simple/advanced package selection returned me to the same
(or maybe the apt) dialog. I knew simple would have problems since I
didn't have a network connection. Trying advanced caused a reboot.
Definately not a good result. On the plus side, following a reboot, the
awery keyboard problem is gone.

I'm closing all bug reports filed on the boot-floppies since this
codebase has reached its end of life. boot-floppies is only in Debian
oldstable now (and temporarily in unstable because of bug #224469).
The new installer for sarge and beyond is of course, the
debian-installer. It solves a great many issues present in the
boot-floppies.
If you believe that your boot-floppies bug is still present in
debian-installer somehow, then please reopen the bug report and reassign
it there, or perhaps better, file a new bug report.
