Comments/Problems:

I have a dual boot set up using grub, with Debian Gnu/Linux 3.1 (sarge) and
Windows XP Home Edition (which was pre-installed on my computer.) I first
tried to install Debian using the 2.6 kernel and when I got to the
partitioning phase, received a message saying that no partitionable media were
found (that is, the installer could not identify my hard drive). But when I
tried again using the 2.4 kernel, there was no problem with partitioning and
the rest of the install went smoothly.

Unfortunately SATA support in the 2.6.8 kernel that Sarge uses is fairly
limited and will not work for some SATA controllers. This is an issue we
cannot really solve in the installer.

If you want to try, you may have more luck with the 2.6.12 kernel used by
the daily builds of the installer [1], but also see the known issues with
the daily builds [2] (and you should wait until a newer build than
20050905 is available).

I'm closing your report as the SATA problems are already well documented
and the installation was successful otherwise.
Thank you for submitting your report.

Cheers,
FJP
