Bug#322460: cdebconf: gtk frontend do not show main menu until user
pressed Back

i suppose this happens because the gtk fe caches the main-menu question
the first time it's received: the gtk frontend should be started when
the main-menu is going to be displayed

I'm sure that you are aware that if the installer is started "normally" the user will not see the main menu at all... The main menu is "there", it is used to determine the sequence of questions after all, but it is not displayed unless the user uses <go back> or if there is an error.
The gtk frontend needs to be able to deal with that.

sorry for my development inactivity: i'm actualy writing documentation about the frontend for my thesis and i'm so forced to posticipate code writing. i've done some testings with X and etch and i was able to reproduce the problem: i supose it can be fixed accessing directly the question database from gtk_initialize() and getting debian-installer/main-menu to cache it. i hope i'll be soon able to do some more work: i plan to insert a control in the frontend to be able to show/hide the main-menu and, if it's shown, to be able to choose if it should operate in jump/ghost mode.

ciao
