Hm, that makes sense -- the news doesn't seem to have percolated as far as
the BBC, but that's probably an attempt to avoid thousands of letters of
complaint from "Outraged of Surrey" (who is firmly of the opinion that
Europe is the bit on the other side of the English Channel ;-)

Yup, sorry, I missed that -- clearly it should be UTC in this context.

For reasons outlined above, I imagine that the vast majority in the UK will
continue to consider their local timezones to be GMT & BST (British Summer
Time) for the forseable future, so  when asking/displaying the local
timezone, it would make sense to use them in the UK, since otherwise users
will be confused.
