Base System Installation Checklist:
[O] = OK, [E] = Error (please elaborate below), [ ] = didn't try it

Configure network HW: [O]
Config network: [O]
Detect CD: [O]

I failed to install kernel 2.6 because disk was not detected (tried on two
    Dell notebooks with different disks)

Installer for kernel 2.4 detected the disk OK

Partition hard drives: [O]
Create file systems: [O]

Install boot loader: [0] GRUB
Reboot: [O]

Comments/Problems:

My main field of work and interest is C++ programming, when during
installation I was asked to select "typical tasks" (Desktop, Web
server, Print server, DNS server, File server, Mail server or SQL
database), I was not sure what to answer and so I selected "manual
package selection" (I don't remember the correct wording). I didn't
select "desktop" because a friend of mine told me that this resulted
in installing both Gnome and KDE (I use just Gnome).

One comment: is really Exim4 necessary in case of local delivery?

-----

On my previous notebook Dell Latitude D800 with kernel 2.6 I could run
X with resolution 1920x1200 without the proprietary module from
NVIDIA.com. As I failed to install 2.6 kernel this time I had to
download the NVIDIA driver but still the best resolution I managed to
get was 1280x960 so my screen is slightly distorted. I am sure that
this will be solved soon when Nvidia Quadro Go1400 will become common.

If I could help with installer testing on Dell Precision (from a
user's point of view), please let me know.
