Package: base-config
Version: 1.49
Severity: important

I tried to install sarge on a hd according to
http://www.debian.org/releases/stable/i386/apcs04.html.en
The machine is a sid, pretty normal except for the lack of a floppy

Section C.4.2 was skipped as debootstrap is already installed

Section C.4.3
debootstrap --arch i386 sarge mnt/debinst
http://ftp.se.debian.org/debian

Smooth sailing down to C.4.4.4:
Section C.4.4.4 was run as described, /usr/sbin/base-config new. The
result was a line 'Terminated', nothing else, no configuration or
anything.

burken:/# /usr/sbin/base-config new
Terminated

burken:/# cat /var/log/base-config.timings
openpty failed
openpty failed
openpty failed
openpty failed

The base-config.log was empty
All work was done under X, in an gnome-term.=20

The info below is from the sid machine, as that's the one I'm
reportbugging from.=20

=46rom the log it seems that you did not run base-config on a usable pty.
In paticular, it looks like running script(1) failed on the console on which
you chose to run base-config.
