Comments/Problems:
The machine is a non-brand pc assembled from parts. It has a CD-rom
drive and a CD-burner, the CD-ROM drive some acts a bit slow on mount,
but should work just fine. The harddrive is connected to the first IDE
channel and the CD-ROM/CD-Burner is connected is on the second on-board
IDE channel as master/slave respectively.

If both CD-burner and CD-ROM are connected i can only boot from the
CD-Burner (slave) for some reason (bios?). If I disconnect the CD-ROM
and boot from CD-Burner the result is the same as below, and the same
goes for disconnecting the CD-Burner and boot from CD-ROM.

My best guess to the error is the "Detect network hardware" step
apparently choking over the on-board NVidia network chip

It has Gentoo Linux installed with kernel version 2.4.20 (which works),
which was used to fill in the above. It uses the NVidia proprietary
network driver.

I tried both RC2 and R3 with the same result:
* I boot the install CD and get past language/keyboard selection and to
the screen "Detecting hardware to find CD-ROM". This screens for about 2
minuts with the "ide-detect".
* After stalling it goes on and ends up crashing a few screens later
(after "Scanning cd-rom", "Loading components of the installer" and
"Detecting network hardware" i believe) with the "caps lock" and
"scroll lock" keys blinking.
