That's a known kernel issue: the SATA driver blocks the access to the CD-ROM. See for example bug #303135. You can work around it by starting the installation in expert mode and only loading the drivers needed for CD-ROM support (IIRC ide-generic and ide-cdrom) during the first stage of hardware detection.
