Bug#297168: Unable to detect SATA disk

Frans,

Thank you for the prompt reply. I tried repeating the install whilst
telling the installer to not load sata_sil (I have been using 'expert' mode
throughout). This seemed to remove the conflict with siimage and the
partitioning tool and base system install then worked correctly. I was
reluctant to try the 2.6 kernel as I am dual-booting with Windows XP and saw
some reports that 2.6 could mess up Windows partitions.

So the main problem at the installer level would seem to be selecting both
drivers by default, when you in fact have to choose one or the other.

Thanks
Jonathan

SATA with 2.4.27 sometimes does work and sometimes does not. You/we may be
able to get it to work with 2.4, but - as it probably is primarily a
kernel problem and we are trying to stabilize things for the release of
Sarge - we usually advise people who have problems with 2.4 to try
installing using the 2.6 kernel.
You can do this by booting the installer with 'linux26'.

Cheers,
