Thanks a lot for a detailed installation report. Reports of d-i and kernel testing on newer hardware are particularly valuable.

A couple of follow-up questions:

1. What happens if you add a debconf/framebuffer=false boot argument? Does it affect the problem in any way?

I'm not sure whether I tried that. I'll give it a try next time I have access to that machine, probably by next Thursday.

2. Is it a USB keyboard?

Yes it is. That's where I hit the next problem a while ago when installing the first machine: the keyboard is a USB Type 6 Keyboard - which I can't choose in the keyboard dialog.

Last time I tried, every provided Keymap for "German, DE" rendered the keyboard unusable (lines of keys mixed up and keys moved one to the right etc.) Of course I didn't try every language, but Type 6 was at least not listed for German or English. Last time I simply switched to the next console and used debootstrap as the keymapping was OK until "corrected" ;-).
such problems seem to be already reported in Bug#255296.

Thank you for your time,
Yours
Matthias Merz
