Problem with sarge/rc2 amd matrox mill 2 on Alpha 600au
Hello there
I wonder if anyone could help me with following
problem, I'm trying to install sarge rc2 with netinst
to an DEC Alpha 500au system (with 600Mhz Alpha and
512Mb mem)... Everything goes fine in install and I've
managed to boot X straight after install...
But after reboot display adapter detection fails... If
I try to force detection with BusID "PCI:x:x:x" (for
ex. PCI:1:10:0 where my 4mb millennium II 2164w
currently is), then it tries to initialize adapter
there, but all I get is some data flashing on screen
out of sync...
When trying without busid command XFree86.0.log says
something like this in the middle of log: (--)
(PCI:1:10:0) "matrox millenium 2164w....) And at the
end of the log: "MGA:no matching section for instance
(PCI:1:10:0) found" and on the next line "no devices
detected" I think this is strange... If I understand
that right it first finds it, but then refuses to load
driver for it?
Same results came with MGA Millennium 1 (2064w), tried
2mb and 4mb cards.
I have also S3 virge VX 4mb card fron Dimond Stealth,
but that one just freezes showing card bios screen
when trying BusID command in XF86Config-4.
I'm quite new on Unix, but I've managed to install
Woody on that same system( with that 4mb mill 1), but
it's quite old, so decided to give that sarge a
try...:)I hope this is not too dumb question but
cant't seem to find any relevant answer to this from
the internet.
Yours
