It's best to assume it's not a kernel problem until you've checked basic things like whether you downloaded the complete iso, whether its md5sum matches, and whether your CD writer might be broken. Looks like a bad CD to me. The only way this could be the installer's bug is if it's a kernel problem or we're producing bad images.. -- see shy jo
