Re: Bug#229125: "po only" NMU patch for shadow

(debian-boot list added as CC, if you don't mind. Attached files
mentioned below will be sent in a completely private mail)

Quoting kcr@debian.org (kcr@debian.org):

Great news (the first sentence, of course).

The patch I sent was not perfect, sorry for this. Yesterday evening, I added a
few things:

1) You need to modify the ALL_LINGUAS in the configure.in file so that
   the thing compiles cleanly.

ALL_LINGUAS="de el fi fr ja ko pl sv uk zh_CN"

2) I also discovered another debconf translation yesterday : Norwegian
   Bokmal.

See attached nb.po file which you need to add to debian/po and add
this changelog line:

  * Added Norwegian Bokmal debconf translation, closes: #206349

This file is a bit incomplete and I asked the translator for an update.

3) I made changes to the french programs translation po/fr.po. See
attached file

changelog
  * Updated French programs translation, closes: #190567

As several "upstream" po files were modified or added , they should be
sent upstream so that he updates his distribution with them.

Finally, it seems to me that a lot of BTS cleaning is needed for
shadow. The package would probably highly benefit from
co-maintenance. Do you think you could consider putting it as a new
project on alioth?

The Debian Installer project already proved that this speeds up things
a lot, especially for i18n.

Shadow is more or less part of the Debian Installer, for sure, so the
D-i team is really interested in this.

Of course, in such case, you remain the package maintainer and the
final authority for validating code changes, but at least this saves
you all the nasty work of handling i18n, for instance.....
