Bug#235931: Installtion doesn't work on an old i386 machine

Debian-installer-version: 03-01-2004 (march 1st 2004) and beta 2
uname -a: doesn't work not linux on the system
Date: 03-01-2004 and 03-02-2004
Method: install from floppy + CD rom and networks (France Télécom network with proxy)

Machine: HP Vectra VL4 5/166
Processor: pentium 166Mhz
Memory: 
Root Device: IDE
Root Size/partition table: 50 Mo /boot on reiserfs
				   250 Mo Swap
				   2000 Mo / on reiserfs

Base System Installation Checklist:

Initial boot worked:    [O]
Configure network HW:   [O] only with beta2 version for an ISA 3C5098-Pro card and both for an PCI network card
Config network:         [O]
Detect CD:              [O]
Load installer modules: [O]
Detect hard drives:     [O]
Partition hard drives:  [O]
Create file systems:    [O]
Mount partitions:       [O]
Install base system:    [E]
Install boot loader:    [ ]
Reboot:                 [ ]
[O] = OK, [E] = Error (please elaborate below), [ ] = didn't try it

Comments/Problems:
À 69% of the installation of the base system I have :
The debootstrap program exited with an error (return value 127)

On console 3 :
 
Errors were encountered while processing :
  Libgnutls7
  Exim4-daemon-light
  Mailx
  At
  Exim4
/usr/sbin/debootstrap: 1: sleep: not found
Umount: /target/dev/shm: No such file or directory
Umount: /target/proc/bus/usb: Invalid argument (I don't have USB on this PC)

I tried stable/testing/unstable installation and no one worked...
