Comments/Problems:
I manually tried creating my own partition scheme. This failed for what reason I dont know. Modifying the guided partition scheme eventually worked for my needs.
Manually editing the sources.list to begin with created a headache. debconf always added additional sources to what had been manually entered, I resorted to editing them manually and removing the entries that were not needed.
Gnome-panel and nautilus were crashing upon my first boot into gnome. First I tried compiling nautilus and gnome-panel but I couldnt find package gdk-pixbuf-csource or its parent. It was required during ./configure. Changing my sources.list to unstable and upgrading them eventually gave me a working gui.
Device pmu was not created during install as pmud was not installed. I apt-get install pmud and chmod 666 /dev/pmu and sound worked and the error message from gnome about no /dev/pmu or wrong permissions on /dev/pmu abated.
Thanks for the great product and keep up the good work. By the way when will the mach and hurd be running on the ppc?
Eric
