Now on to something completely different...
Between RC2 and perfection...
The installer asked me for my IP and other networking infos despite the boot option passed (netcfg/disable_dhcp=true); I felt blocked there but courageously managed to go to the menu, and chose the next option. :) During partitioning, after creating 3 main partitions, I looked for a way to create an extended partition, and after 10 minutes of unsuccessful trials I found out it was created automatically as I created a fourth partition.
The install then proceeded smoothly.
Post-install problems I had to solve myself (now everything is fine!):
- no sound ! I had to install alsa myself (I read sarge goes the 2.4 kernel + OSS way in the mailing-list). That would be nice if alsa was installed automatically with the 2.6 kernel. A total newbie wouldn't know about it and feel disappointed by the silence of debian.
- my old Sony 15 SFII monitor was not recognized as such (I tried and trusted the automatic way for monitor and mouse), and I lost many hours googling for a way to modify the settings of the monitor (first in XF86Config-4 to add '1024 768', then in /etc/kde3/kdm/Xservers to add '-dpi 100' in :0 local@tty1 /usr/X11R6/bin/X -dpi 100 -nolisten tcp vt7)
The sound was of very bad quality; it took me hours of googling to find out that I had too much distortion because PCM volume was set to high (by me probably). Sound is still worse than in windows, but the sound card is different (AC97 now, Yamaha XG ymf744b in windows).
Why is apt-listbugs not installed by default? A couple of years ago I installed Woody and after 1 month of daily (I later learned monthly ones are wiser) upgrades (not from stable), my system was crashing in the middle of the boot sequence, and I never could solve this fatal problem. I went back to windows for 2 years.
You may write the name of a command to list the partition table (fdisk -l) in install-report.template/Root Size/partition table:. I lost a couple of minutes googgling for it. I shall never forgive you.

If you ask for disabling dhcp, then you get IP configuration
questions. That's logical..:-)
Please note that IP parameters cannot currently be preseeded.

I experienced the same problem (basically, see my exchanges with
Thomas Hood, recently in debian-boot). IIRC, the main reason is that
ALSA is not the default sound layer in sarge, but still OSS is.
Don't telle me this is Good or Bad...I have no clue about it.
Anyway, this is considered out of scope for the installer....

I'm afraid that bubulle alone would never have written the very first
line of d-i..:-)
Given that this install report is a complete success report, I do as
usual with successful install report=A0: I close the bug..:-)
This does not of course mean you weren't right to report. Knowing the
installations are correct is important for the d-i team.

your results. Have fun with your new Debian system!
