Well I'm not so sure of that. I have some of these chips on 2 types of
notebooks, and has also configured a 3. type.

Why should it use vesa. I have had some problems with the clock
frequency, and have therefor used vesa. And although vesa works fine,
the savage driver works better. But for 2 types of notebooks, the
savage-driver caused problems. The picture on the display would have
caused a headache after a short period of usage.

But last night I found that adding
Option "UseBIOS" "False" in the savage driver section really helped.

So please try with

Section "Device"
        Identifier "S3 Inc. VT8375 [ProSavage8 KM266/KL266]"
        Driver "savage"
        Option "UseBIOS" "False"
EndSection
