Comments/Problems:
The whole installation went ahead just fine, with only a minor issue
(see below), hardware was correctly auto-detected. When base-config
was executed all went smoothly (I found it funny to have the 'show
welcome message' as a step within base-conf). I didn't try manual
selection of packages (which I believe would launch aptitude) and
installed launched dselect just to install the "usual suspects" (ssh,
less, bind9-host etc...) which aptitude would not install. Actually, I
even tried running aptitude first and setting it up to also installed
all the 'Suggests' but I didn't find a way for it to install the
packages that dselect would pull (I believe they are 'Priority:
standard')
The only relevant issue was the boot loader. Grub failed to install
for an unknown reason (checked the logs in the tty as well as 'dmesg'
result to no avail). I settled for LILO which installed just fine in
the first attempt.
After digging into the messages at /var/log/debian-installer I've only
found this which might be related to the Grub issue above
(in the messages file)

Initially, remembering the boot-floppies install and to debconf
requests, I was confused since all the configuration screens had a
'Return' button but no 'OK' (Go ahead, etc..) button. So when I
started installing I would always press the 'Return' button when I
wanted to go forward, until I realised I had to press 'ENTER' to go
ahead with the next step.
The automatic partition scheme in the system looked OK except for a
minor glitch. The swap partition was created last. I've always thought
the swap partition, like / should be amongst the first partitions
since hard disk drives are usually faster in the first drive
sectors. This might not be an issue with the system I installed (swap
should rarely, if ever, be used) but it might be an issue for slower
systems. It can also be a myth, so feel free to disregard this.
After the installation I was also glad to find that the only real
server installed in the system was exim (and since I did local config
only it was only configured to listen on 127.0.0.1). However, the
default inetd.conf (daytime, time and discard active) was not what I
expected. I would rather have all the 'small' tcp/udp services
disabled per default, they are really not needed at all in most
installations (unless one wants a 'standard' unix server)
Finally, I was wondering why the 'proposed-updates' section is not
added to the apt sources just like the security site is. After all,
some users might want to have this. Probably not just after release,
but certainly when the release is x months old and some updates are
available there which will never make it to the security updates
server.
I also noticed some translation issues (I used the Spanish install)
but have already commited fixes for those to SVN myself.
Extra information:
If the contents of /var/log/debian-installer are useful, please ask

OTOH, many hard drives need the files read by the boot loader as near to
the front of the disk as possible. Actually the swap partition is not
put last for all recipes -- for the "home" recipe it's put after / and
before /home, and for multi_user it's put somewhere in the middle.
This seems to be a reasonable compromise.
