Comments/Problems:

I wanted to use an existing partition scheme that I had set up with
Knoppix, to make sure the install didn't clobber my Windows partition
(hda1) or the special IBM disk-restore area located in "free space" after the
3rd partition. I had already make an ext3 filesystem on hda2, but the
installer insisted on re-creating a filesystem.

BTW, it wasn't obvious to me that I needed to select a partition in
order to change its mount point, filesystem type, etc. -- I thought
the partition display was for information only. Please add some more
documentation on that screen.

Next, I selected the latest kernel (2.6.3-something), but it failed
when trying to install the corresponding pcmcia-modules package. As a
result, I couldn't continue; the only option offered was to reformat
and start over, which I didn't want to do.

Since all the base packages were already on the system, and apt and
dpkg worked, I just did the rest "by hand".
