Comments/Problems:

did very minimal install, just wanted windowmaker and a few other
things since not much memory/disk/cpu on this box.

found that downloading installer modules from net did NOT work.
complained that it could not find release files on cdrom or mirrors
if i used any installer modules pulled down from the network. had to
do everything from floppies/cdrom image (i installed about 10 times
or so before i got it finally)

noticed in some installs ext3 was not an option for some reason for
filesystems, other times it was.

only problem post-install is that 'locales' is tweaked, and tries to
reconfigure every time i apt-get install something. i end up with:

Setting up locales (2.3.2.ds1-11) ...
Generating locales...
C.UTF-8...cannot open locale definition file `C': No such file or
directory
dpkg: error processing locales (--configure):
subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 4
Setting up make (3.80-6) ...

Errors were encountered while processing:
 locales
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

trying to figure out how to fix this now.

also once the core system was installed, it didn't carry over any of
the network configuration. had to manually setup
/etc/network/interfaces, and tell it to pre-load e100 module for
onboard nic, and configure net manually.

also, once base system was up, did an 'apt-get install wmaker', which
pulled down most things, but did not pull down or configure
xserver-xfree86 for some reason. had to do that manually.

very nice work. having an installer that auto-detects hardware was
key to me being able to switch from redhat to debian. thank you very
much!

I'm closing this old installation report, since it looks to me like all the
problems reported in it are old and fixed. There are much newer versions of
the debian installer available, that fix lots of bugs. If you're able to
try one and verify that the problems you reported are fixed (or file a new
report if not), that would be great.

Thanks for your installation report.
