Comments/Problems:

>From the netinst CDROM the base system was installed. Then the system
rebooted and continued with either tasksel, dselect, or another option
(I forgot which). I continued with tasksel, but no connection to the
Internet was detected.

Although network device was detected (eepro100 module was loaded with
reboot), the /etc/network/interfaces was empty appart from the two
comment lines:

# Used by ifup(8) and ifdown(8). See the interfaces(5) manpage or
# /usr/share/doc/ifupdown/examples for more information.

but there were no interfaces defined after reboot.

I added loopback and eth0 device by hand:

auto lo
iface lo inet loopback

auto eth0
iface eth0 inet dhcp

and typed # ifup -a

This configured the loopback and eth0 devices. Next I could continue with
tasksel and netinstall.

The complete installation continued without noticable problems.

I'm closing this old installation report, since it looks to me like all the
problems reported in it are old and fixed. There are much newer versions of
the debian installer available, that fix lots of bugs. If you're able to
try one and verify that the problems you reported are fixed (or file a new
report if not), that would be great.

Thanks for your installation report.
