Of course. I have an asus cuv4x motherboard with bios firmware
revision 9 using the ProSavage PM133 chipset. The hard disk is a
Western Digital of 30GB (WDC WD307AA).

I'm not sure. I remember using the partitioning program with the new
devfs and the tool was fdisk. I have made partitions by hand and
automatically and the result was the same (the LILO loops). Actually I
have seen the common errors of LILO (L... or LI... or LIL...) but I've
never seen anything like this before.

Before the installation the hard drive was filled with zeros. Could the
partitioning program don't understand that the MBR was clean (only
ending in 55AA) ? I don't think is a problem with the boot manager
because GRUB and LILO showed the same behaviour. My humble guess is
that something is bad written in the MBR.

Best regards
Marco
