Package: installation-reports
Version: RC1

Using the debian-installer, RC1, contained in the
ftp://ftp.fsn.hu/pub/CDROM-Images/debian-unofficial/sarge/
dated 13 jun, AND net-inst RC1.
The installer detects the LG ide cdrw/dvd, but fails to install.
Tried expert mode too.
Display:
 LG HL-DT-ST RW/DVD GCC-4480B
At one console:
missing modules ide-scsi

If the drivers are on the cd, why they are not loaded?
Maybe some drivers could be borrowed from Knoppix, as it detected ethernet
card and cdrw/dvd.
Regards.
Andre Felipe Machado

This seems to be your main worry based on errors loading some ide-modules
during installation.
However, these errors don't have to mean there is a problem!! Some of these
errors are "normal".

In my opinion, the main problem in your this report (your DVD not being
recognized) has been solved in the current versions.

Also, the current kernels (including 2.4.26) no longer require scsi to play
DVD or to burn DVD/CD's. I use KDE's K3B with my laptop's DVD-writer with the
standard ide-modules without problems.
If you decide that you want to use scsi emulation, you can always switch
_after_ the install (ask help on debian-user list if you need it).

So, my advise is to try to just finish the installation (try the default
installation first, not expert), install X-Windows and other software you
need. And then see if it works or not.
It should be possible to install using pppoe, but I don't have experience with
it, so I can't help you there (I know you need the ppp component of the
installer). My advise is to use the netinst CD [1].

If you have any problems during the installation itself, please submit a _new_
installation report [2] using the template. I'm afraid this report is
becoming unreadable for us because of the different versions and systems used
and is only making it more difficult for us to help you.
In your new report, you can always refer to this report by mentioning the bug
number (#255388).
