Bug#258500: Installer fails to recognise SiI3112 hw RAID array

Package: debian-installer

Version: daily build 7 July 2004

My Silicon Image 3112 SATA RAID controller was detected fine, module siimage.o is installed ok, and partconf offers me the choice of “IDE5 (hde)” or “IDE6 (hdf)” …

it notes that both drives have a single partition filling the entire disk, and it tells me I must delete one of them, and create a linux partition, before I can install.

It has failed to spot that the two drives form a hardware RAID array, which contains a WinXP installation and has plenty of space left for Debian.

This is weird – how come it detects the controller and can talk to the drives, but it doesn’t understand the RAID array? The WinXP driver managed it ….

Ho hum.

P.S. I have no hard disks on the ATA133 controller, just a pair of DVD drives (hdb and hdc).
