I just give beta 2 of the new installer a whirl and ran into a problem.
I tried it on a Dell Inspiron 8000 laptop. It crashed early on. I
select the language, then the keyboard, then it does some hardware
detection, then it says its loading installer componets, then it does
hardware detection again. Its gets to 95% and says 'Skipping
unavailable module 'ide-floppy' for "Linux IDE Floppy"' (or something
very close to that, its from memory). That's it, its crashed hard.
Reset the machine time (Ctrl-ALT-DEL doesn't work btw, it needs a hard
reset).
This was the Jan-5-2004 netinst iso for testing.
Is there something I can do to get you more info? Is there a way to get
a debug log via a serial port or something like that? I'd be happy to
help debug it if I can.

I'm processing old installation reports, and have, finally, gotten to
yours. Thanks for talking the time to file an installation report.
I'm closing your installation report, which appeats to be due to a hang
during pcmcia startup. Newer versions of the installer prompt whether to
start pcmcia if run in expert mode, which should get you past the hang.
If you can, please try installing again using a current version of the
debian installer. I recommend the tc1 release, which you can find on our
web page, <http://www.debian.org/devel/debian-installer/>. If you can, try
to reproduce the problems you reported using it, so we can verify that
they're all fixed. We look forward to your new installation report.
