Machine: <Description of machine (eg, IBM Thinkpad R32)>
Processor: Dual AMD Opteron
Memory: 8GB
Root Device: SATA Name of device? ?? Sil 3114 SATA controller chip
Root Size/partition table: could not see SATA disk to partition it
Output of lspci: can't run lspci

Base System Installation Checklist:

Initial boot worked: [O]
Configure network HW: [O]
Config network: [O]

Install boot loader: [ ]
Reboot: [ ]
[O] = OK, [E] = Error (please elaborate below), [ ] = didn't try it

Comments/Problems:

Somewhat detects existence of SATA disk, claims it needs ide-scsi
module which doesn't exist, then goes to partion page with a blank
default menu entry, hitting enter just returns to same page.
Also tried hooking up an external USB drive, bios sees that OK,
installer doesn't recognize it (even using ALT-F2 and loading
sd_mod there was still no /dev/sd.
Since SATA systems have become mainstream, support for this is
really needed (the MS-Windows folks here just laughed and said
that they could install Windows on the same system without problems).
