I used partman-auto to partition a 3999 mb vmware virtual disk, using
the separate /home layout. Then I changed the /home partition so created
into a lvm physical volume, and configured lvm. I set up the VG to use
all of the PV, and then went to create a LV usig it. I took the default
size offered, and the creation failed. It said to see vc 3, which
contained:

Insufficient free extents (652) in volume group bar: 653 required

So this is some kind or math or rounding problem. Fdisk says the
following:

Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/discs/disc0/part1 * 1 2478 1248880+ 83 Linx =20
/dev/discs/disc0/part2 2479 8126 2846592 f W95 Ext'd (L=
BA)
/dev/discs/disc0/part5 2479 779 2671672+ 8e Linux LVM
/dev/discs/disc0/part6 7700 8126 174856+ 82 Linux Swap

part5 was used for the LVM. lvmcfg lists it as 2.55 GB in size, and the
VG is listed later as:

foo	(Free: 2.55 GB/ Size 2.55 GB/ LVs: 0/ PVs: 1)

The default size then creating the LV in this VG is 2.55G. If I change
it to 2.54G, the creation works ok.

Oddly, in partman after creating the VG, it shows up in partman as 2.7
GB in size.

     - When making an LV with the maximum available size, use the number
of free physical extents (PEs) rather than the size LVM reports
because the latter might be wrong due to rounding. Closes:
