Attached, I've sent a simple text file ('Turkish') which includes the
iso09 encoded Turkish characters. I've also sent another image file
('Turkish.png') which shows you the right display. Here is the quick
procedure to reproduce the bug:
(1) Set the content of /etc/config-tools/config as follows:
SCREEN_FONT=ter-916b
SCREEN_FONT_MAP=iso09
(2) Restart the console screen:
/etc/init.d/console-screen.sh restart
(3) Dump the Turkish content:
cat Turkish
and compare the result with 'Turkish.png'. There must be some
garbled glyphes for some characters.
Now, to fix the problem change the content as:
SCREEN_FONT=ter-916b
# SCREEN_FONT_MAP=iso09
APP_CHARSET_MAP=iso09
and repeat the steps 2 and 3. You may want to test it under different
kernels (2.4.x and 2.6.x) and by commenting out the SCREEN_FONT_MAP
line.
Regards,
P.S. I'm not sure whether the problem occurs under vmware. The above
procedure spots the bug under a real environment. FYI, 'Turkish' file
includes all the Turkish characters with lower and upper case versions
in the given order. Please note that there is an unusual case for
_dotless_ 'i' (i.e. 'i' without dot). The uppercase of this character
is also a dotless 'i', that is 'I'. The uppercase of 'i' is also an 'I'
with dot, as shown in the file. This is the most single fact where
almost all Turkish related bugs originate.
