Bug#248093: Mipsel/Cobalt install success

Package: installation-reports

Debian-installer-version: beta4
uname -a: Linux qubebob 2.4.25-r5k-cobalt #1 Thu Apr 15 15:17:00 BST 2004 mips GNU/Linux
Date: Sat, 08 May 2004 18:26:20 -0700
Method: Netboot as described in Martin Michlmayr <tbm@cyrius.com>'s May 6th
email to debian-mips. So, nfs/tftp netboot from my x86, then network
install through a squid cache on said x86.

Machine: Cobalt Cube 2
Processor: Nevada V10.0 FPU V10.0
Memory: 48M
Root Device: /dev/hda3
Root Size/partition table:
Disk /dev/hda: 6448 MB, 6448619520 bytes
15 heads, 63 sectors/track, 13328 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 945 * 512 = 483840 bytes

Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
   /dev/hda1 * 1 21 9891 83 Linux
   /dev/hda2 22 286 125212+ 82 Linux swap
   /dev/hda3 287 13328 6162345 83 Linux

I left the partitions intact from my old, broken, sid install. I had d-i
leave the /boot partition alone too, just to make sure it was in a form the
firmware could handle.

The install went really smoothly once I got the netboot setup properly.
One thing that might be neat is to update the LCD with install progress,
but it's not important and of debatable usefullness. A cdebconf frontend that
only uses the LCD and buttons would be nifty too and maybe even useable, but
probably not.

Many thanks to Martin Michlmay (tbm) for making it work on the old Cobalt
equipment. He's my hero.
