Bug#247385: bug with installer - kernel panic on reboot

just after PnPBIOS information comes up i get a kernel panic:

Code: Bad EIP value/
<0>Kernel panic: Attempted to kill init!

this is probably a problem with kernel-2.6.3, as I ran the install with linux26 & expert26. tried with nopnpbios passed to kernel but still the same problem.

Can you boot with 2.4 and then install the 2.6.5 kernel? This version
should hopefully work.

the sata drive doesnt get recognized by the boot for 2.4 (no drivers). The problem is I think caused by this: http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2004/02/msg00445.html, I get that exact message detailed in the email, (or maybe my memory, the motherboard apparently has some issues *http://lists.debian.org/debian-devel/2004/02/msg00508.html*): either-or, I will test the ram, or rebuild the kernel without the PNPBIOS, and maybe file this bug against kernel-image-2.6

thanks for your reply
