Re: Bug#247178: Only do automatic DHCP when a link exists
There should be a way to sidestep that (Expert mode, or something).
Fedora Core1 does this, and it annoys me - mostly because VMware's
virtual network device doesn't bother to fake the "link present" flag,
so Fedora doesn't automatically "up" the network interface, since it
insists that the network isn't up. So, whenever I boot it in VMware, I
have to remember to bring up the network manually, since it won't do it.
I know this isn't technically a failing of Debian, but it's just another
case where making it "smart" can make it too damn smart for its own
good, making it more of a pain for someone who's in the "I know what I'm
doing, don't question me, just do what I say" category.
