Comments/Problems:

The basic problem is that the Firewire CD drive isn't accessible after boot. I
know that there's no technical problem as I installed SuSE 8.1 from that
drive. I tried loading the modules (ieee1394, ohci1394, raw1394, sbp2)
manually, but only ieee1394 and sbp2 worked. ohci1394 failed to load, raw1394
was not included. The syslog showed no indication that the drive was detected
after this. Installation was not possible.

As accessing the harddisk is possible, a workaround might be to copy the
content of the CD to disk, mount that partition and take it from there
(that's what I did when installing woody). However, the new installer does
not have the option to specify an installation path, so it's not possible
anymore.

More random stuff:

There should be a note somewhere that tells you that ESC will take you to the
main menu.

The CD configuration dialog isn't very usable: Answering "No" to "Perform
manual CD configuration?" doesn't do anything. Answering "No" to "Do you want
to manually select the CDROM module and device?" tells you to "Please make
sure that there is a CD in the CDROM reader." (btw, the more common term
would be "CDROM _drive_", imho).

If the hardware detection is executed more than once, weird things happen:
When trying the floppy module on the second try I get "Something must have
gone wrong" on a red screen. On the third try it asks me for the module
parameters of floppy and tells me that modules are missing: e100,
orinoco_pci, ide-mod, ide-probe-mod and ide-floppy.

e100 is the correct module for my NIC and it should be included.

orinoco_pci works with my wireless NIC, but has problems under heavy load,
i.e. it will crash leaving the NIC unresponsive and I have to reboot. The
prism2_pci module of wlan-ng does a far better job for this chip, so the
hardware detection should default to that one.

The error message is in a scary red (too scary for a simple error, imho) and
has some minor layout glitches.

That's about it. Thanks for the work so far!
	Georg

The missing modules should be in more current beta versions of the
installer.

The other problems (CD-ROM, wlan-ng, firewire) were cloned and filed as
separate bug reports (#225167-#225169). Therefore I'm closing this bug
now, please reopen it if you object.

Kind regards,
David Härdeman
