Well, in one case it succeeded on the second try, in an other case
it did not, but actually it got an address ('ifconfig' on VC2).
In a third case, it claimed failure but actually got the address
on the first try. Earlier, it also succeeded on the first try. So
it indeed looks like a timing problem. However, I did no systematic 
research on this ;-)
