I do not know what is in svn and where it goes from there.
The silo.conf in the ISO _is_ used when booting the CD. Some 
time ago, I modified the ISO image with a hex editor (removed 
'read-only', added ' rw' to the append line, padded the length 
difference with newlines).  Then I burnt this iso and it booted 
fine when I just hit ENTER at the SILO prompt.
