This is a requirement only for compatibility with Tru64 systems; Linux cares not at all about the full-disk slice, and libparted happens to not cope well with overlapping partitions, as it turns out. It would be nice if d-i could handle legacy disklabels, however, so I'm assigning a copy of this bug to libparted. > CRITIAL ERROR with installation of aboot. On Alpha hosts no aboot means no booting so > its really important to have it there. This is a bug in debootstrap that has been fixed, though not in time for beta3. A subsequent file conflict bug in glibc made it impossible to provide an update for alpha for beta3. Things are looking better for beta4, though only sid can be bootstrapped so far, not sarge yet.
