More info about this bug:

I tried the tests suggested and I received immediate segfault upon execution of
bterm -f unifont.bgf

I also received Unimplemented system call on mounting devfs, but I don't
think that is related.

The only thing reported in dmesg about my framebuffer is:

Console: switching to color frame buffer device 128x54
fb0: Creator at 000001fc00000000

I also tried running the debconf frontend with the paramaters requested
and it only complained about initializing the debconf template db, so it
does sound like an FB issue with bterm.
