I today tried the alternative way of configuring the DHCP server, i.e. using vendor options, and that seemed to do the trick also.

The segment that needs to be added to dhcpd.conf is:

# some "keep apple happy" voodoo
option vendor-class-identifier "AAPLBSDPC";
option vendor-encapsulated-options 01:01:02:08:04:01:00:00:01:82:00;

Note that the last byte is a length and could be followed by a hostname, but just using a zero-length names seems to work ok for booting thru yaboot.
