It made sense to put the back button on the left when the continue was on the right, to imply a left/right movement between pages. Without the continue button, this placement does not make sense. It looks awkward. I think it would be better to still display the continue button if the back button is displayed. Only if there is no back button, the continue button can also be left off. IIRC, that addresses the original problem that led to the removal of the continue buttons -- that a continue button looked awkward at the bottom of a select list, if it was the only button displayed. Note that there is also a drawing glitch on select list dialogs, if there is no back button.
