Comments/Problems:

The system booted off the CD fine and the installer started, but the installer can't mount the CD. It tries to mount it (the cdrom drive is active, LED blinking) but just says "Failed to find and mount a Debian CD-ROM". When trying to mount it manually from a console, I get this:

~ # mount /dev/cdroms/cdrom0 /cdrom
mount: /dev/cdroms/cdrom0 is write-protected, mounting read-only
mount: /dev/cdroms/cdrom0 is write-protected, mounting read-only
mount: /dev/cdroms/cdrom0 is write-protected, mounting read-only
mount: Mounting /dev/cdroms/cdrom0 on /cdrom failed: Not a directory

Also, I get the following error messages (multiple times) to the console on alt-f4:

Apr 6 19:01:00 (none) syslog.warn klogd: hdc: tray open
Apr 6 19:01:00 (none) syslog.warn klogd: end_request: I/O error, dev 16:00 (hdc), sector 0
Apr 6 19:01:02 (none) syslog.err klogd: cramfs: wrong magic
Apr 6 19:01:06 (none) syslog.warn klogd: ISOFS: unable to read i-node block

There's nothing wrong with the CD medium (I just burned it and the system booted off it just fine). I don't know the brand of the CD-ROM drive, but I can open the machine's case and check it out if you're interested... If you want to know more, get back to me.
