It should only be dvh for the SGI subarchitectures, Other mipsen use
msdos labels.

dvh labels don't have logical partitions.

parted fails also. The layout of a dvh label allows for:

- 15 partitions, named from #1 to #15
- #11 spans the whole volume and is type SGI volume (6)
- #9 is the disk volume header, type SGI volume header (0),
  and contains the second stage bootloader (and probably
  kernel images).

The other partitions can be freely used, with one marked as boot,
and one marked as swap (the latter could be used for a minimal
rescue system).

This happens AFAIK always when parted was attempted earlier,
parted seems to leave some poisonous pattern there.
