problems installing base system, debootstrap error 127
Having problems installing build 20040220 of Sarge. I downloaded the DVD
image from this URL:
using jigdo. I have no problems with the installer right up until the base
system installation. I get the red box "base system installation error"
with the message "the debootstrap program excited with an error" and the
exit code is 127. I checked the target/var/log/debootstrap.log and at the
end I see "errors were encountered while processing: lilo". Above this, I
see that most of the packages have "Warning: fake start-stop-daemon called,
doing nothing" in the same logfile. When I check the integrity of the DVD,
it says "The ./dists/sarge/main/binary-i386/Release file failed the MD5
checksum verification", even though jidgo claimed that the ISO it created
matched the MD5 checksum. My computer is an AMD Duron ~800Mzh with 256 megs
of RAM, and 40 gig IDE harddrive, and DVD-ROM Drive. I've tried several
partition schemes, and even the auto partitioner, but it's always the same
error. I also downloaded the CD version of the ISO (so I have the CD and
DVD versions) and I ran into the same error, and the integrity failed. This
is similar to the bug reported at
"http://www.mail-archive.com/debian-boot@lists.debian.org/msg37861.html",
Bug#230894 which was marked as done. Anyone have any suggestions to at
least get the base-system onto my computer?
