Hello!
d-i booted, and everything went as expected up to "Configure and mount
partitions".
1. We want lvm, so we partitioned a small boot, a larger (512 MB)
partition (later swap, now ext2) and the remaining unknown. The
installer (fdisk, to be honest) detected the present bsd disklabel
(this machine is converted) and offered us the disklabel menu.
Partitioning went fine.
2. The installer did not update it's view after returning from
partitioning, still claiming the first partition to be swap (which
it was previously), and the other n/a. Partition was
a: ext2
b: ext2
c: unknown
3. Also we were offered reiserfs, which IMHO should not be an option
(or a warning should be given).
4. We pressed continue, and then we were in the "Partiton the Storage
Devices" menu, were it again wanted to install swap on a:
Later we realized that "continue" is not appropriate, we should
press "finish". This is a confusing user interface: What is the
difference between "continue" and "finish" (and analogously "Abort"
vs. Go Back").
5. In the menu point "Install the base system" we got stuck, because
it claimed:
Failed getting Release file cdrom/dists/Release.
CD-ROM integrity failed
./dists/sarge/main/binary-alpha/Release failed MD5
The downloaded ISO had a correct MD5 sum, also other bootable media
burned with our CD-ROM burner work fine (inlcuding woody install
CD-ROMs).
6. We poked around if we could choose anything regarding this release
file, but were unable. Debconf was already set to low.
7. CD-ROM integrity check failed also (from the main menu), and then
he went through hardware detection again, and now complained (he did
not do so before) that he could not load some modules (ide-scsi,
usb, ...) but again we could not proceed
8. We tried saving the logs to a floppy, but did not suceed. He did
not change neither an ext2 formatted nor a fat-formatted floppy, in
fact, even leaving away any floppy did not produce an error. The
menu (in all cases) simply vanished for a moment, and then
returned, without any indication of success or failure whatsoever.
If you need any additional information about this machine, please ask.
Greetings
Helge
