Discover does not detect the correct X driver for my video card (which makes
knoppix fail on this laptop :-( )

Here are the edited version of lspci commands:
# lspci
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Silicon Motion, Inc. SM810 LynxE (rev a6)

# lspci -n
00:02.0 Class 0300: 126f:0810 (rev a6)

# apt-cache policy xserver-xfree86
  Installed: 4.2.1-12.1
And here's the XFree4 setting I use :
Section "Device"
        Identifier "Generic Video Card"
        Driver "siliconmotion"
