If you weren't there when the computer rebooted without asking, you
can't be sure everything has gone well.

You probably don't need to. If GRUB is running, you can use the
following commands to boot windows (if it's still there of course):
grub> chainloader (hd0,0)+1
grub> boot
(if you're presented with a menu at boot, just hit 'c' to get the
command line interface.)
If something went wrong with GRUB, you can still run "install-mbr
/dev/discs/disc0/disc" from a shell within debian-installer (once your
disk has been detected), then reboot.
