this version contains a bogus Packages file
debian/dists/sarge/main/debian-installer/binary-i386/Packages.

This file contains

Filename: /data/.2/debian/pool/...

instead of

Filename: pool/...

You may try to add a link from /data/.2/debian to /cdrom in 
debian-installer, but if I remember correctly this will not be useful.
