I just came across gnewt, a gtk+ based newt compatible library. When looking at the screenshots, I would say we can just drop the gtk frontend in cdebconf, and link the newt frontend with this library instead. Check out <URL:http://www.oksid.ch/gnewt/>. This way we can spend the time making the newt frontend as good as possible, instead of working on several frontends in parallell.
