I have tried the 3-11-2003 daily sarge-i386-netinst iso from http://gluck.debian.org/cdimage/testing/netinst/i386/daily/ on my laptop and I got good result.

I've got only one big problem: the module (b44) for my network card (Broadcom 4400) is not in any modules udeb. So I had to skip everything network related.

There is no b44 module in the stock debian kernel. If this module exists
in the 2.4.22 tree and is just not being turned on (seems to be so),
could you please file a bug report on the kernel-image-2.4.22-1-386
package and ask for it to be turned on. I'll then add it to the install

Despite of this, I was able to get a working base system and to complete the installation (by manually configuring my network card, after rebooting with the full kernel installed).

That's strange, because I don't see the b44 in the kernel package. What
kernel package do you have installed that includes that module?

I have the stock debian kernel, ie kernel-image-2.4.22-1-386, package version: 2.4.22-3 .

The module is there. (It was introduced in the 2.4.22 kernel)
