No.

Both ext2 and romfs could be compiled into the kernel and as long as
romfs is used for the initrd it will save space.

If we use ext2 or cramfs on the initrd it will add 2kB.

I cant think of any reason against using romfs for the initrd, if anyone
can please speak up.
