The i82365.o module is for 2.2.x kernel IIRC.

Does any body know why this problem occurs and is there any way of
fixing it?

Check your "/etc/default/pcmcia", specifically the PCIC line. For 2.4.x
kernels you'll most likely want this line to read:

PCIC=yenta_socket

I had the exactly same problem. The bf2.4 _use_ i82365 for PCMCIA during install and doesn't use yenta_socket. I wonder why?
Thanks for the advice, now I get this solved, too.
